This story is about our neighbor Kimberly Anderson. Kimberly's message to youth: "Be yourself - Everyone ELSE is taken." By Oscar Wilde. You are enough. You have your own unique talents and qualities that makes you valuable and special. You are enough!
My name is Kimberly Anderson, and I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. I have lived in the Barrington Trace subdivision on Gable Court since 2004. I am married to Ty and together we have three grown sons who make us proud. We also have a grandson who will be two years old in March.
College and the weather (smile) bought me to Atlanta where I attended Spelman College and the Georgia Institute of Technology as a Dual Degree student. I majored in Mathematics and Industrial Engineering.
I served as an engineer for a short time but found my true calling of working with and developing teenagers as a high school mathematics teacher in 1993 in the DeKalb County School District. As I continued my journey in the educational field, I served in additional capacities such as Assistant Principal, District Mathematics Coordinator, Principal, and District Regional Coordinator. I also developed my professional knowledge by earning a Master of Education and Specialist in Educational Leadership and ultimately earning a Doctor of Education in School Improvement and credentials in Executive Leadership and Organizational Development coaching. As of August 2022, I joined the ranks of retired educator.
I serve the community as a member of the National Alumnae Association of Spelman College – Atlanta Chapter and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. (Nu Lambda Omega Chapter).
Ty and I try to participate in at least one 5K per month, as well as the Peachtree Road Race each year. I also hike, zipline, kayak and love to participate in outdoor adventures.
I love to travel! Prior to the pandemic, my goal was to travel internationally every six weeks. So far, I have traveled to over 30 countries and 5 continents. My secondary travel goal is to visit all 50 states and have visited 36 states to date. While I have traveled to many of the destinations with family and friends, I am not afraid to travel alone and have done so about 3-4 times – including internationally.
